WOODEN
CHURCHES
Columbia County Legacy
Columbia County, New York
is endowed with a rich heritage of wooden church architecture
which covers the full design spectrum, from the simplest vernacular
shelter to imposing Gothic Revival structures. In microcosm,
it exhibits the influences of the nation’s changing architectural
styles, and the growth of the varied religious denominations.
Collectively, the churches reflect a remarkably creative, diverse
range of building design and form.
Toelke Associates
designed Wooden Churches for author/photographer
Arthur Baker and the Columbia County Historical Society
Our
work on this project included:
-
Consultation
with the author for development of visual concept, page design
and typography, cover image and book jacket design.
- Consultation
with the printer for trim size, paper choice, scanning
and duotone options, proofing and scheduling.
- Consultation
with the author/photographer on editing and adjusting the
photographs.
- Creation
of a detailed county map with locations of all churches,
plus an extensive map key/index section.
- Delivery
of complete files and hard copy to printer.
- We
worked closely with the author/photographer, who had specific
ideas about the nature of the book, organization
of material and overall aesthetic approach. A printer specializing
in photography books was chosen, and all photos were
reproduced
as duotones.
The book was delivered on time and on budget.
