SHEEPTACULAR
Pittsfield!
Shear Art Spun from our Merino Heritage

Sheeptacular Pittsfield! celebrates the ongoing history
of the City of Pittsfield, Massachusetts in a way — so unique — that
joins its nineteenth century roots with its twenty-first century outlook.
From the first appearance of the Merino sheep in their town square in
1807 through the incredible growth of the woolen industry to the creation
of outrageous, witty, sentimental and simply gorgeous Merino sheep figures
on Pittsfield’s main streets and byways, this place and its agricultural
and cultural histories have been intertwined.
Toelke Associates
designed the SHEEPTACULAR Pittsfield! commemorative
book for the publication committee of the Sheeptacular Pittsfield!
Event in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, in the spring of 2004
Our
work on this project included:
- Consultation
with the committee for development of visual concept, page
design and typography, cover graphic and book jacket design.
- Consultation
with the printer for optimum trim size, paper choice, proofing
and scheduling.
- Consultation
in cooperation with the event photographer for silhouetting,
color correction, file size, etc.
- Delivery
of complete files and hard copy to printer.
- We
worked closely with the committee, which included numerous
meetings, through the entire design and production process.
It was important
that the project moved rapidly to meet the printer’s tight schedule;
books had to be available for sale at a major Sheeptacular Pittsfield!
event. Extensive use was made of PDF files for review purposes. The book
was delivered on time and on budget.
