The Encyclopedia of War & Weaponry

Toelke Associates designed this book for packager Media Productions, Inc., of Dobbs Ferry, NY., during the fall of 2001 and spring of 2002. The publisher is Franklin Watts, a Division of Scholastic.

Our work on this project included:

• General and ongoing consultation to develop and produce the book
• Visual and organizational concept, book cover (hard and soft cover), page and typographic design
• Consultation on final selection of pictures
• Consultation for imaging, including providing in-house scans and image editing where appropriate
• Ron Toelke also participated as a paid consulting editor, working closely with the author on development of final content, and review of manuscript for accuracy
• Delivery of files to MPI

We worked closely with the MPI staff and author Stuart Murray throughout the development and production process, making sure that the project met the publisher’s critical review and production deadlines. The book was delivered on time and on budget. Originally published only for the national library market, Franklin Watts was so pleased with The Encyclopedia of War & Weaponry that the book will be made available to the general public.

There are entries about knights, samurai warriors, cavalry charges, firearms, ships, and laser-guided “smart” bombs—all described in A–Z entries.

Colorfully illustrated full-page features show how military technologies have developed through the centuries—from armor, swords, and firearms to aircraft, satellites, and missiles.

The Encyclopedia offers a Chronology of history’s battles and wars along with a reference Dictionary of Military Leaders.
